Hurricane Junior Golf Tour to Host Junior Golf Tournament in Athens, GA - August 27-28

Aug. 2, 2011 - PRLog -- The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) will make the familiar trip up to Statham, GA for the Athens Jr. Shootout August 27-28.  This will be the 4th consecutive year in which the HJGT has stopped at The Georgia Club making it the longest standing tournament site of the tour.  In all previous trips to the course, the head professional Mike O’Malley and his staff have welcomed the tour with an inviting attitude and a course primed for top-notch junior golf.  This tournament will be the last of the summer season for the HJGT, making it the last event which will factor in to the Summer Points Standings.

   The last time the HJGT stopped at The Georgia Club in Statham, GA was August 28-29, 2010 for the Athens Jr. Shootout.  In the event Austin Langdale of Townville, SC was able to hold off the second place finisher by one stroke in the Boys 16-19 Division to win his 3rd HJGT event of the 2010 season.  Langdale finished at -1 (71+72=143) for the two day tournament, and posted a division leading 83.3% pars or better.  In the Girls 15-19 Division Claire Brown of Hartsville, SC won by a six stroke margin by posting a total score of +5 (74+75=149).  This was Brown’s only tour win of the 2010 season.  In the event Brown led the division in birdies with five, pars with 22, par 4 performance at 4.20, par 5 performance at 4.75, and pars or better at 75.0%.

Junior golfers will compete over 36-holes of stroke play in one of five age divisions: Boys 15-19, Boys 13-14, Boys 10-12, Girls 14-18, or Girls 10-13. This event will be ranked by the National Junior Golf Scoreboard (NJGS) and South Carolina Junior Golf Association (SCJGA). For 2011, any first-time player who registers for the HJGT will be able to play in his or her first event for only $99! Also, any player who registers for a College Bound Membership with the HJGT will be able to play in his or her first tournament of 2011 for just $99! In conjunction with the $99 Promo, check out the new Player Rewards Program where current Basic Level Members can play in a future event for $99 as well by upgrading their membership. And remember, any HJGT player who refers a new player to the tour will receive 5 points which can be used to save on an upcoming tournament.

The Georgia Club in Statham, GA is one of the premier golfing venues in all of Georgia.  The club has maintained the reputation of providing quality golf to the Athens region ever since its opening in 2001 under the design of course architect Denis Griffiths.  The club features generous Bermuda fairways, meticulously manicured A-1 Bent grass greens, and gorgeous hardwood trees which make the course as visually appealing as it is to play.
