Firstly, rats need food and water. Therefore decreasing their access to food sources is essential. Problem areas can be where pets are fed and how pet  food is stored. Many people feed pets in the laundry or on the verandah. After feeding pets it is wise to clean up all spilt  food and store it in a strong, rat proof container. Compost bins need to be rat proof also, as long as air can enter the bin it will still compost properly.

The storage of  foods for human consumption in rat proof containers is essential for obvious health reasons.

How to get rid of rats?

Firstly, manage access to food. Next, check roof void regularly for fresh droppings . If fresh dropping are found place baits or traps in the roof void. If you are managing your rat problem yourself then trapping rats in the garden is highly reccommended over baitng for safety reasons.
