MINNEAPOLIS – Local businesses play a very important role in Minnesota. They create jobs, better our communities, and help our local economy.
Sponsored by the University of Minnesota and the Carlson School of Management, Small Biz, an intense, nine-month program, is giving ten local, small business owners the opportunity to gain access to resources, including advisors and MBA student consultants, that will help them solve growth challenges within their business, strengthen their business plans, and create job opportunities in their communities.
From this September through next May, Small Biz will provide resources to assist and motivate participants, including an advisor, who will provide the guidance needed to strategically plan for and achieve growth; a team of MBA student consultants, who will help solve some of the challenges outlined in the owners’ growth plans; and the other participating business owners, who, together, will form a community of support and inspiration. Business owners will participate in workshops with faculty and professionals that are experts on issues related to growing businesses, design business models, and develop leadership skills.
Small Biz provides the incredible opportunity for small businesses to be a part of a unique University of Minnesota program that provides supportive resources that are otherwise categorized as too fragmented, expensive, exclusive, general, or short-termed.
“The [MBA students] delivered an amazing business plan and together [we made a better business model]. My business consultant thought it was a fantastic project. The experience was great…I hope it will be a successful story to tell in the future,” said the founder/CEO of a local business who participated in last year’s program.
Small Biz is a journey for those owners willing to take a step back from the daily grind to acquire the knowledge, tools, and connections needed to better both their businesses and, ultimately, their communities.
