Allergies Hit Bay Area: Clinical Hypnotherapist Offers Relief Without Shots or Drugs

And they're not alone. The Centers for Disease Control estimate that 50 million Americans suffer from allergies to irritants like ragweed, tree pollen, dander, dust, and mold.

And Vacaville hypnotherapist Dennis Atkinson says it's all in your head.

"What I mean is, hay fever and allergies are physical manifestations of immune processes that can be controlled at the subconscious level," says Dennis Atkinson. A hypnosis study published in the American Journal of Clinical Hypnosis reported that 86% of the study participants who had been taking medication for allergy relief had been able to reduce their medications. Three out of four participants reported an improvement in their symptoms.

"An allergic reaction occurs when the immune system encounters a foreign substance like cat dander or grass pollen," says Atkinson. "These substances are not poisonous or harmful for most people. But if you suffer from an allergy, your immune system reacts to pollen as though it's anthrax or bubonic plague. Your immune system sends out killer T-cells, and your body is flooded with histamines. Your eyes water, you sneeze, you get itchy. You may get congested. In extreme cases, allergy sufferers may go into anaphylactic shock."
