May 27, 2011 - PRLog -- Many people wonder why do they need to spend extra money on Registry Mechanic, as CCleaner is working excellently to clean their operating system's registry files. There is no doubt that both of them are the top registry cleaner softwares, but there are some differences between them. I have done a short test to explain their features and scanning performances. Registry Mechanic vs CCleaner, who will win?

Features Comparison

CCleaner has 3 main features: Disk Cleaner, Registry Fixer and Additional Tools (Uninstaller,Startup Manager, System Restore, and Driver Wiper). Registry Mechanic has included all this functions, except for Startup Manager. Some extra tools that CCleaner don't have are Registry Defragger, Services Tuneup, System Optimization, and File Shredder.

Scanning Performance

Next, we are going to compare the performance of their scan engines by comparing the types and numbers of registry errors found by both registry cleaners. I run both scans at the same time, and screenshot both results for your reference.

CCleaner

The scanning is fast (within 1 minute) and it detects 165 registry issues.

Registry Mechanic

Deep Scan

The scanning first cleans all traces of your online Internet and computer activities, then scans for registry errors in your pc. 4911 items are cleaned and 682MB of space is saved at the first phase of the scanning. Next, 15 registry errors are detected in my computer. The whole scanning process takes merely 2 minutes to complete.

Registry Defragger

Registry defragger defrags and optimizes your registry, but you have to restart after compact.

Analysis

After the testing, I was surprised that CCleaner has found more registry errors than Registry Mechanic. However, when I looked into the list of errors found, I realized most of them are registries that are left behind after I have uninstalled quite a number of softwares yesterday. Registry Mechanic did well in protecting your Internet privacy by cleaning all traces during the first phase of the deep scan, but it seems to detect different errors during the second phase. Registry defragger is a great tool to compact your registry, which is not included in CCleaner.

Conclusion

Both are awesome registry cleaners that are worth to download or purhase. CCleaner helps you to clean registries that are not removed when programs are uninstalled. Registry Mechanic is able to clean, fix and defrag your computer's registry files effectively. I would suggest you to use both of them to benefit the most from the top 2 best registry cleaners available. So, Registry Mechanic or CCleaner? It depends on whether you're willing to spend some money to buy the paid version, or you're statisfied with the performace of CCleaner, one of the best free utilities out there.
