ULC Monastery's social network builds a community for its online ministry

The Universal Life Church Monastery's social network, the Ministers' Network, helps people who become ordained online interact with their fellow ministers and develop a community in what might otherwise be a cold and impersonal online ministry.

May 27, 2011 - PRLog -- The Universal Life Church Monastery (http://themonastery.org), the world’s largest federation of Universal Life Church ministers, is known best for the free online ordinations it has given to hundreds of thousands of people from around the globe. The ULC Monastery does more than help people become ordained, however; it also offers a number of services to its ministers past the completion of the ordination process. These services, which include a blog (http://blog.themonastery.org) and forum (http://forum.themonastery.org) where ministers read about and discuss important current political and religious events, are intended to spark religious learning and discourse amongst the organization’s members in order to foster their spiritual growth and promote a sense of community amongst them.

People come to the ULC Monastery’s Ministers’ Network for this exact purpose. This social network gives its 15,000 registered users a free online platform to share their wedding ceremony stories, ideas, and thoughts on religious topics with one-another. The Ministers’ Network was built so that the ULC Monastery’s online-ordained ministers could develop real connections through direct person-to-person communication in what could otherwise be a cold and impersonal online ministry.

The effort the ULC Monastery spends on community-building has been noticed by the network’s users.  Father Carl Smith appreciates the Ministers’ Network for the sense of community it instills amongst the ULC Monastery’s widely-dispersed ministers.

“The services provided by the Monastery are very good,” Smith said. “[They] allow me to interact with other ministers of my faith and learn from other ministers of other faiths.”

Father Earl Webster also values the services the ULC Monastery provides for its ordained ministers.

“[The ULC Monastery has] the best forms, blogs and our social network is number one,” Webster said.

The Ministers’ Network also helps ministers like Reverend Martin Hilleary find inspiration for the wedding ceremonies they perform.

“I have found the services offered by the ULC to be very comprehensive in helping a Minister build their wedding service,” Hilleary said. “I learn a lot from the forum and enjoy the exchange very much.”

If you became an ordained pastor, minister, or priest online and you don’t have access to an online community like the ULC Monastery’s Ministers’ Network, please consider visiting http://ministers.themonastery.org and making an account. Doing so will transform you from one of many faceless, isolated ministers in your online ministry to being thrust into the center of a lively online community of like-minded people.
