May 31, 2011 - PRLog -- Patients who are alcoholic basically fall into two categories, either they are alcohol dependent or they are alcohol addicts. Whichever might be the case, it generally involves the following symptoms:

• Alcoholics or patient crave for alcohol even they are advised against it
• They show physical dependence symptoms. Few of these signs are nausea, headache, perspiration and repeated black outs
• They need higher amount of the drink in order to feel high.
• In most cases they lose control and cannot keep a check on the amount of alcohol they are having.

At any alcohol treatment center, the process of rehabilitation generally involves steps of counseling and few medications, which bring to an end to their drinking habit. There are three popular behavioral treatment processes that are practiced at any alcohol treatment center - Motivation Enhancement Therapy (MET), Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Alcoholics anonymous is the most widely practiced traditional method but currently the two most favorites are the motivation enhancement therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy.

Motivation Enhancement Therapy (MET)

Motivation Enhancement Therapy (MET) is very similar yet very different in approach than the Alcoholics Anonymous process which is practiced in the alcohol treatment center. It is a systematic approach which involves the patient's own motivational change for the recovery process to work.

The key characteristics of MET, regarding the treatment is following:

• The clients are provided with a number of unconventional opportunities
• The advised given during the MET process of treatment at any alcohol treatment center is very precise and to the point.
• Mainly personal responsibility is the key point here
• Therapist also plays a key role
• Patients receive feedback of the risk and damages associated with abuse
• Self satisfaction is the goal

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

There are different forms of CBT. However when any treatment process is employed at the center they usually have the following few features:

• It is based on emotional response of the patients towards their surrounding
• Most of the centers base CBT on Socratic Method, which is asking questions to have an insight on oneself and logical pathway.
• It is geared towards making the patients think logically instead of incorporating them with ideas about how to think. The patents play the central characters here.
• It also uses Inductive Method. In this process, the patients are encouraged to follow a definite path according to their choice and then they are told to analyze them till they could themselves discover the correct way.
• It is a very structured and directive method of treatment. The patient and the therapist role with each other play the key point to determine the success rate. It is planned accordingly.
• Patients are to learn and unlearn. They are supposed to shed the negative thoughts and behavior and take in the positive feelings in order to go forward in life. It is solely dependent on the patients focus.
• Patients are involved in regular homework
• CBT involves therapeutic sessions, but these sessions are briefer in time
