May 17, 2011 - PRLog -- PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – May 17, 2011 – The Automotive Fine Arts Society (AFAS) will return to the famed 18th fairway of Pebble Beach Golf Links on Aug. 21, 2011, from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to exhibit remarkable paintings and sculptures for its 26th year at the renowned Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Sponsored by the Lincoln Division of Ford Motor Company, the AFAS exhibit will include new artwork along the Pacific shores for car aficionados to enjoy. The AFAS is an international association of automotive artists who create pieces in different mediums including watercolors, acrylics, oils, wood and various metals.

“The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance is an event that AFAS looks forward to each year,” said Ken Eberts, AFAS president.  “With the beautiful green that meets the rugged shoreline and the cool breeze that sweeps from the sea, the Pebble Beach patrons come together every year for one purpose: to celebrate the selection of timeless automobiles. They exude elegance, on and off the canvas, and we’re thrilled to be a part of this event another year thanks to Lincoln.”

Lincoln, which sponsored the Pebble Beach AFAS exhibit for 14 years, will do so again.  Lincoln will also sponsor the group’s exclusive reception on Saturday, Aug. 20, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., which has become a popular destination for celebrities and industry leaders to get a sneak peak of new pieces by AFAS.

“The artists work every year to showcase art never shown before,” added Bill Motta, vice president of AFAS.  “To continue the tradition, they’re bringing pieces that will celebrate this year’s featured marques and special classes. These include Mercedes-Benz and 125 years of the automobile, Stutz Centennial, the coveted Ferrari 250 GTO, Edwardian Rolls-Royce Silver Ghosts and Italian Motorcycles.”

Also, two AFAS members, Barry Rowe and Gary Whinn, have been commissioned by the Pebble Beach Concours to create the posters for this year’s Concours and the Pebble Beach Tour d’Elegance presented by Rolex.  Rowe’s painting will commemorate Mercedes-Benz, which will be featured at the Concours on Sunday, Aug. 21.  Whinn’s art illustrating a Ferrari 250 GTO will be showcased during the Tour d’Elegance on Thursday, Aug.18.

First conducted in 1950, the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance (www.pebblebeachconcours.net) has grown to be the world’s premier celebration of the automobile.  Only the most beautiful and rare cars are invited to appear on the famed 18th fairway of Pebble Beach Golf Links, and connoisseurs of art and style flock to see these masterpieces.
