When Dominick interviewed the United Servicers Association’s peer group last winter, (named FIRST, For the Insight and Refinement of Service Together) he discovered their purpose to work together to achieve common goals.  

First Peer Group was formed at the ASTI (Appliance Service Training Institute) convention in 2010 and has helped appliance service providers get a handle on their finances; collaborate on marketing ideas and helping each other with development of their businesses.  

The FIRST Peer Group has discussed other issues including the recent requirement for background checks and drug screening and treatment for independent servicers.

Association memberships are helpful for appliance repair technicians and various home service providers.  Recognition by these associations enhances a service provider’s credibility and professional qualifications.

For example, Bob Dougherty is among a very select group of major appliance service technicians in the United States to be recognized as a certified Appliance Professional with a Master Technician rating.  The Professional Service Association (PSA) is a not-for-profit national trade association representing independent appliance and electronic service centers.
