Artist Uses Conservation Photography Practices to Spread Awareness on Threats Facing Sea Turtles

Via conservation photography, Faces of Chelonia (FOC) educates the public about the plight of sea turtles while advocating for initiatives to safeguard them.

May 6, 2011 - PRLog -- The newest digital exhibit at the Forward Thinking Museum – Faces of Chelonia (FOC)  – features a series of images from Neil Ever Osborne's on-going body of conservation photography work focusing on the ecology of seven species of sea turtles. Through his work in the emerging genre of conservation photography, Osborne aims to raise awareness about the plight of sea turtles and to advocate for initiatives to safeguard them.

Conservation photography merges nature photography with social documentary photography to expose environmental concerns in a proactive, issue-oriented approach. It is a storytelling platform that allows photographers to put their images to work while collaborating with environmental stakeholders to impact public opinion.

Across the globe, sea turtles face a number of human-induced threats — including fisheries bycatch, coastal development, direct harvesting, pollution and climate change. Osborne, along with the Conservation International’s State of the World’s Sea Turtles (SWOT) team and a host of international partners,  documents sea turtles in specific locations around the world to address the threats facing them.
