By: UJA Federation WWWN From 9:30-11 a.m., the seven area synagogue religious schools are presenting “Yom Israel – Israel Experience” for children, including an IDF Boot Camp simulation, a 3-D virtual tour of Israel, a virtual archaeological dig, a GaGa pit (Israeli dodgeball), Israeli crafts, Israeli dancing, and more! All family members are invited to join their children in grades K-6 for this hands-on experience. Children not attending with religious schools are welcome, if accompanied by an adult. Children in grades K-3 must attend with an adult. At 11:15, all are invited to “Rock with the IDF,” an energetic concert of traditional and modern Israeli tunes by the soldiers of the Israel Defense Forces Musical Ensemble, sponsored by Friends of the IDF. These talented musical groups perform wherever IDF forces are stationed, and tour the world as cultural emissaries for Israel. Some of the most celebrated Israeli singers and musicians are alumni of IDF musical ensembles. At 12:45 p.m., the day culminates with a presentation by Kenneth Jacobson, deputy national director of the Anti-Defamation League. “Defending Israel in a Sea of Turmoil” offers an overview of the current events in the Middle East and how they impact Israel regionally, at the U.N., and in the U.S., as well as what it means for those who would advocate for Israel. From 10 a.m. on, a bazaar of select vendors will be offering unique Israeli wares, from handmade jewelry and crafts, to Israeli books and original Israeli fine art. Authentic Mediterranean delights such as falafel and shawarma will be available from a kosher concession. “We are delighted to once again host this wonderful community-wide celebration,” Admission is free. No reservations or advance tickets are required.
