The 2011 Conference entitled, ‘Somerset – The Energy to Achieve’, focuses exclusively on low carbon energy generation and environmental technology.
By: ADPR A popular occurrence on the business calendar, the annual event is organised jointly by the Somerset Chamber of Commerce and inward investment body Into Somerset. It attracts in excess of 200 delegates – with this year expected to be no exception. Keynote speakers will include Senior Civil Servant Hergen Haye from the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC), who will provide a national perspective on renewable energy and nuclear power; Interim-Chair of the Heart of the South West Local Enterprise Partnership, Jeremy Filmer-Bennett, who will present details about what the new partnership is likely to mean for the area; and representatives from key low carbon linked organisations such as EDF Energy, Environmental Technologies iNET, Viridor and Plymouth University. Rupert Cox, Chief Executive of both Somerset Chamber of Commerce and Into Somerset, comments, “The Somerset in Business Conference is the perfect platform to bring businesses together to discuss the issues and developments surrounding the increasingly important and fast growing energy sector. Low carbon energy generation has been identified by the LEP as one of the key growth areas for the region, so this event offers businesses across the South West a chance to learn, first-hand, what plans are in place, what opportunities are out there and how they can get involved.” Somerset has seen significant investment and advances in renewable energy in recent times and is perfectly positioned in the ‘Golden Triangle’ of ideal solar conditions below the M4 corridor. It also boasts one of the highest business start-up rates of any county outside London thanks to its cost-effective commercial property, access to London and the South East in less than two hours and strong business support network.
