Cabot, Cleveland Field Director (216) 522-7447 Michelle Crew, Public Affairs (216) 522- 4794 LILY LEDBETTER TO SPEAK AT EEOC WORKSHOP ON GENDER WAGE DISPARITY Free Public Event to Highlight Problem of Wage Gap CLEVELAND-- Lilly Ledbetter, the woman whose unequal wage lawsuit gave rise to the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act—the first law signed by President Obama on January 29, 2009--will speak at a a free public workshop on the gender wage disparity on May 4, 2011. The event is sponsored by the U. S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), partnering with six area colleges and universities. It will be held at Fenn Tower Ballroom, Cleveland State University, 1983 East 24th Street, Cleveland, Ohio 44115-2214. The half-day workshop begins at 9:00 am and concludes at noon. The free workshop is open to the public, although reservations are requested. Seating is limited, reserve by calling Michelle Crew at (216) 522-4794, or email Michelle at michelle.crew@ In addition to Ms. Ledbetter, the EEOC’s Regional Attorney, Debra Lawrence, will talk about current case law on wage discrimination, followed by a panel discussion with attorneys Denise Knecht, Sharona Hoffman, and Dianne Foley. The EEOC’s partners in hosting the seminar include Case Western Reserve University; the Cleveland State University’s Mareyjoyce Green Women's Center, Student Women’s Association; EEOC enforces the federal laws prohibiting employment discrimination.
