April 14, 2011 - PRLog -- In partnership with Peterborough based housing association Accent Nene, FE Peacock Construction Ltd (www.fepeacock.co.uk) has installed photovoltaic (PV) panels on a six home development which it has built in Cottenham, Cambridgeshire.

Photovoltaic panels produce electricity from daylight, generating useable power even on cloudy days.

The development consists of six affordable homes and includes one three-bedroom and five two-bedroom properties.

The properties are available at affordable social rent from Accent Nene and will contribute towards meeting the need for new affordable housing for local people.

In total, FE Peacock - which is part of the Larkfleet Group (www.larkfleetgroup.co.uk) - installed 19 panels across the six properties, with a combined 5,074 kWp (kilowatt peak) estimated to be generated. The electricity generated will help tenants reduce their overall energy bills.

The properties were all constructed using timber frames manufactured and built by Kestrel Timber Frame (www.kestreltimberframe.co.uk), also part of the Larkfleet Group. The timber frame construction method allows properties to be constructed in a short time period. The timber is sourced from sustainable forests.

All properties on the development meet the government’s Code for Sustainable Homes level 4 – some 44 per cent above the current minimum energy efficiency requirement set out in building regulations.

Accent Nene’s head of development and sales John Walton commented: “Accent Nene is proud to have delivered this affordable housing project in partnership with South Cambridgeshire District Council, the Homes and Communities Agency and FE Peacock. The sustainable nature of the homes underlines Accent Nene’s commitment to delivering quality, energy efficient affordable housing within local communities.”

FE Peacock Construction Ltd managing director Karl Hick commented: “FE Peacock was delighted to work with Accent Nene on this project. These properties are not only energy efficient but affordable, allowing local people to rent a home at a reasonable cost.”

FE Peacock is experienced in providing renewable energy solutions for residential dwellings and for agricultural and public sector buildings. It can install PV panels on new buildings and also ‘retrofit’ them to existing buildings.

Together with Larkfleet Group company Lark Energy and specialised builders’ merchant, Eco Building Products, FE Peacock is able to supply and install top quality PV components as well as provide a full consultancy and design service.
