By: Gibsons The Hornby 1,000 piece puzzle features a big brand through the ages and includes a number of fine examples, drawn from the Hornby archives. Starting from the left, the Tri-ang Local Passenger Set dates from 1971. The Advanced Passenger Train Pack was produced between 1980 and 1984. The Hornby Dublo ‘Royal Scot’ train set (top right) was first produced in 1958 and the long blue boxed Hornby-Dublo set dates back to 1938. Even older than this is the Hornby Clockwork Train, which was made in 1921. Childhood memories will flood back as the model trains are pieced back together, making them an ideal gift for the inner child in us all. The entire range of Gibsons jigsaws (over 250 images) are made from 100% recycled puzzle board and all of their jigsaws are made in the UK or Europe. The Airfix kit legend goes back to the late 1940s, when the organisation, which was then making inflatable plastic toys and hair combs, was asked by the Ferguson Company to make a 1:20 scale model of its new TE tractor for promotional purposes. Initially this model was only sold as a ready-assembled version, but by the early 1950s it became available as a kit being a more cost effective item. The Airfix puzzle picture includes a number of classics from the Airfix archives. Starting from the left, the Triumph TR4A, a truly modern sports car of its time was launched in 1966. In the middle of our picture, the 4 kit Model Building Set dates from the 1990s. The Airfix Classic model of HMS Revenge is dated 1964. Gibsons is a British, family company established in 1919. Using only the highest quality materials they produce some of the UK’s best-loved jigsaw puzzles and games.
