ABOUT BILL DAKE Bill Dake was born and raised in the Seattle, WA area, and developed an interest in choral music in the early '60s. He got his first guitar in ninth grade and formed the band “ The Mayhems,” a collaboration that spawned his first original song. “The New Folk Four” and later, “The BMW Group” were bands formed during the height of the folk era, but Bill's interests also encompassed rock 'n' roll guitar. He played lead in various bands, wrote and arranged a few tunes and soon discovered guitarist Howard Roberts. It was an introduction to the world of jazz that would guide his future musical direction. After a late '60s tour in the Navy, Bill returned to music, doing club gigs. He got married in 1978 and in 1983, finished his jazz degree from the prestigious Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle. He has recently been approached by a NY jazz label, and continues to write. # # # ABOUT SONGDOOR The annual SongDoor Songwriting Competition is open to amateur and professional songwriters worldwide.
