Cancer Rates in U.S. Population Continues to DecreaseNew surveys conducted by several researchers have concluded that US cancer rates are continuing to decrease.

Women on the other hand have seen a decrease in the rates of lung, breast, colorectal, uterine, bladder, cervical, and oral cancers. But rates of thyroid, pancreas, and kidney cancers have risen. Furthermore, there are differences in cancer rates among different cultures. Black men have seen the greatest increase in cancer between 2003 and 2007. Despite the complexity of these cancer statistics, cancer rates have overall decreased. Dr. Joseph Rosenblatt, interim director of the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Miami contributes rate decreases to lifestyle changes such as quitting smoking. Also, he states that improvements in diagnostics and treatment have led to fewer deaths and will play a key role in reducing cancer related illness in the future. The reduction in cancer rates in encouraging, and with the innovation of new technologies, rates are expected to continue their downward trend.
