The original song, If I'm Not In Love, is a love song that Constant wrote in the early '90's and has been recorded by several recording artists like Faith Hill, Kathy Tricolli, Yuna Ito, and Jody Watley to name a few. The song has reached Billboard's #1 chart status with recording artist, Jody Watley, was a huge # 1 hit in Japan for Yuna, and contributed to the success of Faith's seven time platinum selling album, BREATHE.
On American Idol's sixth season, Melinda Doolittle was a successful performer, reaching the top 24 group of contestants. After that season, she got a record deal with HIFI Recordings. On her debut album entitled, Coming Back To You, she recorded Constant's song, If I'm Not In Love. She did a cool R&B arrangement of it that had much more soul and groove than any of the other ballad versions earlier recorded by the other artists.
It's not clear really why Constant Change received a request from American Idol for permission to perform her song this season, but its exciting nonetheless. We are thinking that a new contestant may be singing it on the show during one of the episodes or Melinda may be coming back on to perform it live this season.
When Constant Change's PR manager, Donna Siskind called the local Fox News affiliate to tell them about the request she received from American Idol, they wanted to do a story about Constant's successes, songs and her music right away. During the interview, Constant gave a live performance of the song for them. The interview and some of that performance will be aired tonight at 9pm CST on Fox News.
Don't miss the Constant Change interview tonight. You will also want to get Constant's new album, The Classic Album and a copy of her new single release entitled, Missin' You Feeling, now available on iTunes at http://itunes.apple.com/
