March 29, 2011 - PRLog -- The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism states that alcohol drinking is widespread among adolescent. Currently, research shows that students start to drink as early as the elementary level. Startling statistics reported by Monitoring the Future, an annual survey of U.S. youth, show that underage drinkers between the ages of 12 and 17 consume on average 4 to 5 drinks per occasion, about 5 times a month.  Because of these shocking statistics, Custom Glassware, an online store which offers glass customization and printing services, has sponsored a program run by Sobergrads.org to create awareness among students about the dangers of underage drinking.

Custom Glassware owner, David Lee explains “Students are indulging in binge drinking at a very early age. This, in turn, leads to dwindling grades and even addiction.” Mr. Lee adds, “We chose to sponsor this program primarily because students need support when saying ‘no’ to alcohol.  Sobergrads reinforces this positive message.”

The institute further reports that teenagers choose to consume alcohol, not just because of personal characteristics, such as personality type or level of social skills, but also because it is a part of daily life in their communities and, for many, in their homes. By participating in such a sobriety program like Sober Grads, Mr. Lee explains that students can lead an alcohol-free life through one of the many resources on the site, such as peer-to-peer counseling offered in their forum.

Students may register their school at www.sobergrad.org and complete a pledge that states they will remain sober during major high school events. Moreover, Custom Glassware encourages students to participate in the program by awarding them customized glass products for Prom, Graduation, or any other high school function or promotional opportunity. The products will be printed with a custom message or logo requested by the school. “We’re looking forward to helping in any way that we can.  These students should be rewarded for setting a positive example,” the owner details.

Sober Grads rewards schools who show the highest amount of participation, regardless of enrollment size. Lee asks teachers and parents to get involved by talking to their students about the program.  “We’re part of a solid network of sponsors,” says Lee.  “Now it’s up to the students and their mentors to join the program and spread the word.”

School administrators and students can register their school by visiting http://www.sobergrads.org.  Teachers, students and non-profit organizations wishing to customize their own glass products may do so by visiting http://www.customglassware.com.
