March 24, 2011 - PRLog -- Asa, 23, is running this year’s Virgin London Marathon for the charity, which supports sufferers of the rare and incurable disease lymphangioleiomyomatosis (known as LAM).

Asa, who works as an investment administrator, decided to take part in the challenge on April 17 after hearing about the illness from an ex-colleague and wanting to do something to help.

Asa said: “I don’t have any direct link to LAM, but when a colleague of mine, Phil Mabon, told me about the condition it seemed like a really worthy cause to raise money for.

“LAM is one of the rarest diseases in the world so not many people have heard of it. The work LAM Action does to support families and sufferers and to raise awareness is fantastic, which is why I wanted to get involved.”

LAM, which causes the lungs to deteriorate, affects only women. There are believed to be just 120 cases in the UK. There is no cure, nor effective treatment for the disease.

Asa continued: “This will be my first marathon and I’m really looking forward to the challenge. I’ve been training four times a week to prepare and I’m planning on running a half marathon before the big event to get in a bit of practise!”

Asa hopes to raise £1000 for the cause and has so far raised £300. To help Asa meet his target please visit his Just Giving page at http://www.justgiving.com/Asa-Haydon. For further information on LAM Action visit the charity’s website at www.lamaction.org
