March 24, 2011 - PRLog -- Visitors to some of Scotland’s biggest tourist attractions are being asked to “mind the meerkats” as they go about their business this week.

St Andrews Aquarium, who recently welcomed a family of meerkats into the zoo, have released 100 cuddly meerkats in some of Scotland’s most iconic locations ready for members of the public to find, giving them an exclsuive opportunity to win a free trip to the Aquarium and the chance to feed the meerkats in person.

The cuddly meerkats, which pose no real threat to the public, will be tagged with a label clearly asking the members of the public who find them to “Take Me Home”.

John Mace, managing director of St Andrews Aquarium said, “The meerkats arrived with us in January and we wanted to celebrate the fact that they were here, in Scotland, and ready to receive visitors. What better way to do that, than giving hundreds of tourists who are clever enough to spot a meerkat, the opportunity to visit them for free?”

“We have an expert team of cuddly meerkat handlers who are positioning the meerkats in some of Scotland’s most iconic tourist destinations this week and there are 100 meerkats to be found the length and breadth of the country. Everyone who finds the meerkats has a chance to win the opportunity to feed them when they come to the aquarium just by sharing a photo of them and their meerkat on the Aquarium’s facebook page. You could say, in the words of Aleksander Orlov himself, it’s seemples!” He said.

St Andrews Aquarium currently houses three meerkats: Kate & Wills head up the herd, and a third meerkat is currently waiting on the schoolchildren of Fife to decide his name in a competition being run locally.

The Aquarium has recently undergone significant developments and boasts a number of new exhibits which include Kate & Wills’ meerkat enclosure, a shark pool and some of the world’s most dangerous aquatic creatures.
