March 22, 2011 - PRLog -- This Spring, the Cottonwood Art Festival will feature the work of more than 240 established artists – and also the efforts of a select group of 15 art students who have been named Emerging Artists.

Selected works by art students from four high schools in the Richardson Independent School District will be shown at the Cottonwood Art Festival on May 7-8, 2011, at Cottonwood Park in Richardson. Patrons will be able to view, learn about and buy the students’ artwork during the festival.

Sponsored by Opportunity Bank in Richardson and now in its fifth year, the Emerging Artists program is designed to mentor students in the art world. Art teachers encourage their students to express themselves artistically and learn how to exhibit their work. Opportunity Bank will also award scholarships and prize ribbons at a reception honoring the art students.

The program is unique in that it is open only to art students in high school and college. Each student develops an art concept and an artist statement, and produces images of their work. After review by their art instructor, student artwork is submitted to members of the Cottonwood Art Festival jury.

The students’ work will be exhibited through April at the Forrest & Virginia Green Mezzanine-Gallery at Richardson’s Eisemann Center and then at the Cottonwood Art Festival in May.
