March 15, 2011 - PRLog -- NEW YORK CITY, NY - Are centralized dispatch systems the next buggy whip? cabFLARE, a location-aware, direct referral service, may soon find out.

Consumers can launch cabFLAREs - virtual flares - to broadcast that they need a ride. Drivers can use their smartphone to detect and respond to cabFLAREs. No calls, no dispatch, no doormen, no hassles. Just a first to respond, nearest available driver, on-demand, direct referral service.

"Many mobile solutions put the responsibility of locating a ride on the rider, which is counter-intuitive if you are a livery driver. Or, they require full back-end integration with existing dispatch systems limiting overall availability", says Gregg Olin, co-founder and manager of cabFLARE. "Many drivers spend a lot of time and gas money simply looking for their next fare and consumers expect broad availability when it comes to technical innovation."

For those livery drivers working through central dispatch, they rely completely on their company’s marketing efforts to generate customers. Or, waiting in line at various livery stands, limits visibility and access to nearby fares. cabFLARE provides a solution to every kind of method used in varying locales by providing drivers with hand-held “rider radar”.

Implemented as a self service, mobile web application, cabFLARE does not require personal information or registration from the consumer. Drivers do need to register with cabFlare in order to respond to consumer requests. cabFLARE does not require access to contacts, phone state, or other personal data on your device, unlike many mobile applications.  cabFLARE also offers users the added feature of using their Twitter credentials to allow the service to update them when a driver responds and is on their way.

“cabFLARE isn’t designed to replace all the other ways consumers locate a ride, but it does provide a free and simple alternative to broadcast your need to any driver or dispatcher willing to listen”, Olin stated. “We can easily integrate with existing dispatch and in-car systems, but didn’t want to wait to see if both drivers and consumers will help each other make their own local market more efficient.”
