March 1, 2011 - PRLog -- Lately, one of the most common topics has been finding ways to keep county, city, and even state budgets in line. Today, the focus is not only on how to save the judicial system much needed funds, but also on aiding sick and special needs children in attending therapy camps. In some cities, the judicial budget accounts for nearly fifty percent of the entire budget.   However, there is a very simple solution that ReachOut America has formulated to minimize this excessive problem. Sentencing nonviolent offenders to community service will provide a way to save a substantial amount of the budget. Sending offenders to jail is costly and very high in liability. In many cases, it also forces them to lose their jobs; thus adding to the economy’s current problems concerning employment. This action can eventually displace entire families, as a result of losing their main sources of income to unnecessary incarceration.

The average daily cost to incarcerate an individual is approximately one hundred dollars, providing they do not need special medical attention and or in many cases a law suit for a particular event. The standard settlement or claim is roughly $40,000 per incident.  By using community service in a small municipality in order to keep ten individuals out of jail per day, their economy would save nearly $400,000 in expenses plus law suits. A larger municipality that could prevent one hundred individuals from going to jail would conserve an extra four million- not including law suits that could potentially add up to a couple more million. This would provide massive savings without any cost to implement the program whatsoever.

The main problem concerning community service is the minimal programs that are positioned and available for defenders to actually complete the required hours of community service. If the offenders do not complete the hours then they are back in court and jail. There is however a simple yet underutilized solution to locating the much needed funds for the judicial system while helping offenders complete their hours. ReachOut America is a national foundation that helps special needs and physically challenged children across America. This foundation has developed a unique way of combining community service hours along with helping special needs children. Through this foundation, camps across America are being supported and now continue to prosper in aiding many children with various ailments. Many offenders who have received probation hours from the judge have elected to complete their service hour through ReachOut America.  By reflecting ones decisions and giving back with community service hours is an amazing role that ReachOut America strives to initiate… Most favor the organization because it services local communities and is beneficial to the service of sending children with disabilities to camp.  Through ReachOut America, individuals are able to choose a local therapy camp to support that would obtain funding from their hours completed. Mark Baker with North Georgia Judicial Services states, “That through this program he is almost able to see the camp that is being funded.”

ReachOut America offers many testimonials that start with bad situations; however they eventually have happy endings. If the judicial system desires to balance their budgets in addition to helping children throughout their community, then this is truly a fairytale ending for everyone. Visit ReachOut America to gain more insight at www.ReachOutAmericaOnline.org and help these individuals reposition their focus on needs of others, specifically children here in America. Through the work of this non-profit organization, our dream is to overcome the day to day challenges faced on a daily basis at home.
