There are few names in Entertainment who have garnered the esteem, and longevity of Vanessa Redgrave. Not only is she the personification of thespian royalty, but she is continuously praised for her inner strength and continued zest for life. Such was the case when Drama Desk Executive Producer Robert Blume contacted Ms. Redgrave's publicist and asked if she'd be willing to contribute her 'greasepaint lineage' to The Drama Desk, and film an in house sizzle-reel which would bolster interest and generate buzz for this years upcoming 2011 Drama Desk Awards ceremonies.
"What was so funny about the shoot," notes director Michael Stever " was we literally picked the coldest day of the Winter to film it, and Ms. Redgrave wanted to film outside in front of the beautiful Golden Theater so she could not only mention her play 'Driving Miss Daisy' but also mention the plays history with the Drama Desk as well. It was all perfect, except it was less than 10 degrees outside! So there we were eagerly awaiting our star - all huddled together in the lobby when we turn around and there she is, by herself outside on the sidewalk staring back at us! We all converged on her, and with the most impish grin she calmly uttered... "It's not that cold!"
Ms. Redgrave, the New York City theater community salutes you for your inspiring strength, and for being one Hell of a stalwart Dame! Cheers!
