NHIN Direct Project included in MSIPA Integrated HIE

Feb. 19, 2011 - PRLog -- MaxMD announced today that the Morris Somerset IPA of Parsippany, NJ would be among the first Integrated Health Information Exchanges to feature Direct Project capabilities. The 600-member physicians group will be able to exchange both structured health records and unstructured data securely over an open network.

The system known as ACO-Care has a free EHR Starter Version (ESV) that will be distributed to all physicians to facilitate the connection of physicians to the HIE.  The ESV product may be upgraded to a full, “Meaningful Use” EHR at any time, thereby enabling the physicians to recoup their ARRA funds.

The MSIPA Integrated HIE will connect approximately 160 independent practices and 25 hospitals in central New Jersey. The Direct Project capability will afford the secure exchange of structured and unstructured data between independent entities and disparate systems both within the network and external to the network. Other features will include digital signatures as well as HIEx which will facilitate bridge connectivity to other members of the central New Jersey health community.

Dr. Atkins and his Executive Director, Ms. Jane Liss chose the eCast ACO-Care system for a number of reasons.  “We liked the low cost of the HIE, free EHR Starter Version and the secure, encrypted .mdEmail system” said Ms. Liss.  She went on to say: “Our physicians will have total connectivity and will be able to start using an EHR at no risk and no cost.  It’s a huge win-win for the IPA and the physicians.”
