Feb. 9, 2011 - PRLog -- As cycling grows in popularity, a hotel in Chamonix is looking to put the French resort firmly on the mountain biking map with British cyclists.

With Mont Blanc as a back drop, Chamonix is best known for its skiing credentials, but in the summer the resort is home to some of the best mountain biking trails in Europe, with something to suit all levels of ability and styles of riding.

For more advanced, adrenaline seeking mountain bikers there is a wide choice of challenging trails, all accessible via the extensive lift system of the Chamonix Valley. The lifts are open from mid June until mid September, with a trip up the cable car with a mountain bike costing between €10-€25.

Beginners to intermediate riders can enjoy numerous trails around the Chamonix Valley, with gentle slopes and no steep gradients, and routes along the river Arve offer easy cycling for all the family.

While British cyclists regularly cycle in rain and chilly temperatures, the French Alps typically reach 25ºC in the summer, with the mountain scenery, Savoyard food and hill top restaurants all adding to the Chamonix cycling experience.

Hotel Les Lanchers, one of Chamonix’s most popular hotels, is ideally located for cyclists with easy access to the trails and lifts of the area. Two minutes walk from the hotel is La Flégère lift, offering access to steep mountain descents that can put the best mountain bikers to the test.

The hotel provides visitors with trail maps for cycling in and around Chamonix, along with advice on where to hire guides and cycling equipment.  In addition, safe storage for bikes is available.

Having completed a €1.3million refurbishment last year, the hotel offers a warm welcome and a wealth of facilities to relax after a day’s cycling, including 19 en-suite bedrooms, Rendezvous - its renowned restaurant, and a friendly bar.  Open throughout the year, a seven-night stay this summer starts from €290 per person, including bed & breakfast accommodation based on two sharing.

Jonathan Rogers, who owns Hotel Les Lanchers, says: “Mountain biking is a hugely popular sport in Chamonix in the summer months, with a range of different trails for cyclists depending on their experience.  We already have guests from elsewhere in Europe who recognise the quality of the cycling facilities on offer.  Now with the growing popularity of cycling in Britain we are keen to attract more British cyclists to come and experience not just the incredible cycling opportunities, but also the food, weather and lifestyle of summer in the French Alps.”

Hotel Les Lanchers dates back nearly 100 years and has a reputation for fine food, comfortable accommodation and personal service.  It has also been selected as part of the bid for the Winter Olympic Games Annecy 2018.
