Just because your pet flies on a commercial airline, doesn’t mean they’re safe.
Carol Martin, a leading pet in-flight safety expert, announced the publication of new Pet Safety Protocols for Service Animals and Cabin Pets flying on commercial aircraft. The protocols extend the safety procedures for people to service animals and pets traveling in the cabin.
Commercial airlines provide differing policies regarding the transport of animals, although most will accommodate you with a small pet in a carrier (for a fee, of course.) Service animals are generally seated on flights with their handler at the bulkhead row.
The new online publication teaches you how to travel safely with your pet in the cabin, what equipment will help and how to find the equipment, all in one place. With today’s busy and crowded flights, it is unlikely that the airline will offer much help, so it becomes the responsibility of the pet’s companion to have an emergency plan for Fido.
“For too long, we have simply tucked these important Service Animals up next to the bulkhead and ‘hoped for the best’ in the event of an emergency. These animals, in particular, are an extension of the human they accompany and must be afforded the same protection in the cabin,” Martin said. “Our Pet Safety Protocols were formulated from years of experience and extensive research into different in-flight situations, and how to manage them for the safety of all on board.”
