Jan. 4, 2011 - PRLog -- National Day Nurseries Association, Head Office, 31 December 2010 – National Day Nurseries Association (NDNA) today revealed that its Chief Executive Purnima Tanuku has been awarded an Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours List for services to families.

NDNA said that the OBE was an important step in highlighting the valuable services delivered by the sector. Purnima will visit Buckingham Palace in early 2011 to receive the award.

Sarah Carr, Chair of the NDNA Board comments: “We are thrilled that the work of NDNA has been recognised through this OBE, and on behalf of all the Trustees we would like to congratulate Purnima on this very special achievement. Over the last five years Purnima has worked hard to develop and grow NDNA into the organisation it is today, supporting nurseries to enrich the lives of children and families. Under Purnima’s leadership the sector has benefitted from a number of new services, including NDNA’s National Early Years Enterprise Centre and the introduction of an innovative quality improvement scheme, e-Quality Counts. Even more importantly, Purnima has been a strong and consistent voice on behalf of nurseries, knocking on the door of government and other key organisations to make sure that the challenges nurseries face are understood, and support given, so that they can provide the right services for children and families. Of course, this OBE also reflects the hard work and dedication of our volunteer Trustees and the staff team at NDNA, who work closely with Purnima to ensure that NDNA’s mission to support nurseries to deliver high-quality care and early learning is achieved. We are really looking forward to celebrating this OBE, which reflects how nurseries are being recognised for the fantastic work that they do with families.”

Purnima Tanuku, Chief Executive of NDNA says: “I was delighted to discover that I had been named in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours List. It is a great honour and it would not have been possible without the fantastic support of NDNA’s Board of Trustees, member volunteers and our hard working and dedicated staff team. Together we are determined to improve the support for nurseries, and enable them to deliver the very best possible care and early learning for children. This OBE will add weight to our work, and we hope that it will help open even more doors so that we can deliver more for members and ensure that their role in improving outcomes is strengthened and recognised even more.”
