Science, Engineering and Mathematics Link Inc (SEM Link) host STEM Career Fair & Exhibition for SF

Dec. 22, 2010 - PRLog -- On Saturday, February 26, 2011 from 10:00am- 1:00 pm Science, Engineering and Mathematics Link Inc (SEM Link) will host its 1st Annual San Francisco Bay Area Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Career Fair and Exhibition at DeVry University's Oakland Center. This event will provide K-12 students with an opportunity to explore careers and meet and interact with professionals in these fields.  Devry University’s Oakland Center is located at 505 14th Street, Oakland, CA. This event is free and open to the public; however you must pre-register at http://semlinksfbayareastemcareerfair.eventbrite.com.
 
The STEM Career Fair and Exhibition is the signature event for SEM Link’s Math and Science Career Academy, which exposes K-12 to math and science through hands on activities, real-world applications and career exploration. The purpose of the event is to expose K-12 students to the various careers and applications in these disciplines. Exhibitors, professionals and students in these disciplines, will feature their careers, conduct hands-on demonstrations or showcase real world applications of math and science.  The event will be set up similar to a job fair in which students will visit exhibitors’ tables. “SEM Link has hosted several successful STEM Career Fair and Exhibitions in Metropolitan Atlanta in which we exposed hundreds of youth to STEM careers” Executive Director and Founder Tokiwa Smith said. “We are excited to bring the event to the  San Francisco Bay Area to do the same thing for Bay Area youth”.

SEM Link is a tax-exempt nonprofit organization, founded in 2005 in Atlanta, Georgia, that promotes student achievement and career exploration in math and science for K-12 students by connecting them with individuals with backgrounds in science, engineering and mathematics. SEM Link has a two-core program model, Experimental Design Program and Math and Science Career Academy, that provide students with opportunities to develop their math and science skills by enhancing the classroom learning experience and teaching them skills that are transferable to other areas of life. Since its inception SEM Link has enhanced educational experiences for over 1000 Metro Atlanta youth through hands on math and science activities, career exploration and exposure to real world applications of math and science.  In January 2010, SEM Link expanded its programs to the Bay Area to enhance the educational experiences for Bay Area youth.
