Dec. 22, 2010 - PRLog -- Despite Christmas being the time for giving, new research has revealed that around a quarter of British women actually use it as a time to treat themselves. According to a new poll from www.MyCelebrityFashion.co.uk, one in four, 26%, of women admit to spending more on themselves whilst Christmas shopping this year than on others; whilst over half have also decided to keep a gift for themselves.

The research was conducted by MyCelebrityFashion.co.uk, in order to find out more about the shopping habits of women when it came to their Christmas shopping. 1, 341 women aged 18 and over subsequently took part.

When asked, “Did you buy anything for yourself whilst out Christmas gift shopping this year?” 58% of respondents answered “yes.” Of these, three quarters, 67%, admitted that they did not intend to buy anything for themselves when they set out, and were tempted by impulse.

Furthermore, a quarter, 26%, of female respondents to the study admitted that, in total, they had spent more on gifts for themselves whilst Christmas shopping, than they had on gifts for others.

Over half, 52%, of the women who took part in the poll admitted that they had decided to keep a gift for themselves which they had originally bought for someone else this Christmas. When asked to stipulate who this gift was for, the majority admitted that it had been bought for a female friend.

Andy Barr, marketing director at http://www.MyCelebrityFashion.co.uk, commented on the findings:

“With this research, we wanted to see how dedicated women across the UK are when it comes to gift shopping; and whether or not temptation to buy personal treats ever gets in the way. It was surprising to see that as many as a quarter have unintentionally spent more on themselves whilst doing the shopping, than they have on gifts for others; and even more surprising to see that so many had kept gifts for themselves!”

He continued:

“Shopping for others can often be trying, and things inevitably catch your eye when you’re traipsing round the shops desperately looking for gifts. However, shoppers should remember that they can bag better bargains for gifts for themselves in the post-Christmas sales; so patience can really pay off financially.”
