Dec. 17, 2010 - PRLog -- Capita Children’s Services has partnered with Verismic Software to help schools cut costs and become more environmentally friendly.  The use of Verismic’s Power Manager software allows schools to monitor PC usage and carbon emissions, and identify how they can make savings of around £13,000 for an average secondary school.

Capita supplies its SIMS management information systems to over 21,000 schools and the partnership will mean that the company will become the sole reseller of Verismic Power Manager to UK schools.

Mark McGinn, Managing Director of Verismic Software, said: “The United Kingdom is considered one of the most advanced countries when it comes to its use of technology to engage children in learning. As a result, many schools are running networks akin to those of a medium-sized business, however, few realise how much energy is being wasted by computers being left on when they are not in use.

Verismic Power Manager allows schools to monitor how long PCs are left on without being used and identify how much could be saved should they be powered down during breaks in the school day.

Capita’s experience and relationship with schools means that together we can offer the education sector the opportunity to make significant efficiency savings through more effective PC power management.”

Potential savings for schools using this type of power management technology are considerable. A £20 to £60 saving per computer, per year can be expected. This also means a greener school, with up to 50 percent less overall computer power consumption.

A trial conducted by Verismic in a secondary school, with 1000 pupils and 600 computers, resulted in projected yearly savings of £13,248. Across a local authority, with 35 similar secondary schools, this would mean power costs could be cut by nearly half a million pounds annually.

David Grashoff, partnership manager at Capita Children’s Services, said: "We are incredibly excited by the potential for schools to save money through this partnership. With the government driving the need for savings and promising to be the greenest administration yet, schools can use Verismic’s Power Manager as a way of achieving these complementary goals.”
