Del Sur Area Schools Recognized as High Performing California Public Schools

Dec. 16, 2010 - PRLog -- The community of Del Sur congratulates its neighborhood educational institutions, Del Sur Elementary, Oak Valley Middle and Del Norte High schools, on their 2010 Growth Academic Performance Index (API) scores.

•  Del Sur Elementary School achieved a score of 954, 52 points higher than its 2009 score and tied for highest performing elementary school in the district.

•  Oak Valley Middle School scored 915, a 20 point increase over last year’s 895.

•  Del Norte High School received its first API score this year, achieving 855.

“Education is at the forefront of the Del Sur community,” said Del Sur Elementary School Principal Doug Johnson. “Parents and community members put a high value on a well-balanced, rigorous and relevant education and they invest their time and energy accordingly.”

All three Del Sur area public schools are high performing California Public Schools.

Located within walking distance of many Del Sur homes or within a short bike ride or drive, Del Sur Elementary, Oak Valley Middle and Del Norte High are within the prestigious Poway Unified School District, one of the highest-ranking districts in the county and state. All PUSD comprehensive high schools, middle and elementary schools exceeded the state API target of 800, a goal the state set for all schools to reach by 2014.

With scores ranging from 200 to 1,000, API measures academic growth based on student performance on the California Standards Test (STAR) given last spring to students in grades two through 11.

Opened in August 2008, Del Sur Elementary is one of the most technologically progressive schools in the Poway Unified School District. Del Norte High School opened in 2009.
