Dec. 13, 2010 - PRLog -- Pasadena, CA, December 13, 2010 – The Obama Administration is planning to ditch the 99ers in its proposed tax and jobless benefits extension deal.

White House officials were promoting the deal on Sunday TV talk shows, hoping that it will pass with Republican support. The Senate is going to vote on it on Monday. But the deal faces opposition from some Democrats. Representative Jim McDermott (D-Wash.) has said that the Obama Administration should have put in two or three years of jobless benefits. Some of the opponents are concerned over what they perceive as too generous tax breaks.

But the proposed bill will exclude additional weeks of jobless benefits for the 99ers. These are the people who have been unemployed for over 99 weeks and have exhausted all their state and federal benefits. This includes people in some states who were never eligible for jobless benefits for 99 weeks. This group, referred to as the 99ers has been lobbying for Tier 5 of jobless benefits.

CEO A. Harrison Barnes of Hound says that getting jobs is hard for the 99ers since they have a big gap on their resume and several have noted that they seem to be victims of ageism. “I don’t know when and if 99ers are going to get Tier 5, but either way now is the time to get any job that you can. Most retail chains offer positions with benefits even if the pay is minimum wage or just a little more than that” Hound is a job search engine and it has been able to find over 75,000 jobs in the last seven days.
