Follow on Google News | Denver Woman Becomes World's First Intensive Care Scoliosis DoctorDr. Jane Leavell has achieved Intensive Care certification in the CLEAR Institute treatment for scoliosis. This new treatment method is a blend of techniques and therapies developed to reduce or correct scoliosis without using bracing or surgery.
By: Jill Mayer IC Certification is rigorous, extensive, and granted only to those doctors who have demonstrated complete mastery of the CLEAR Institute protocols. Currently, there are only 12 certified CLEAR Intensive Scoliosis Care Clinics in the world. Dr. Leavell has the distinction of being the first and only woman with Intensive Care certification. Her clinic, Rhino Spine Center, is right here in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. Intensive Scoliosis Care consists of treating a scoliosis patient 2-3 times a day over the course of 1 or 2 weeks, with before and after x-rays to determine the amount of correction during that time. The patient then goes home to perform an in-home scoliosis rehab program that we have designed specifically for their scoliosis configuration. In 90 to 180 days, she reports back to Rhino Spine Center for a follow-up exam, and possibly another round of care. Intensive Scoliosis Care is needed because of the scarcity of doctors certified in the CLEAR Institute Scoliosis Protocol. Patients who live in an area without a certified doctor will need to travel to a CLEAR-certified Scoliosis Treatment Center. Scoliosis is a disease of the neuro-muscular skeletal system that causes a lateral curvature of the spine, usually accompanied by forward head posture, head tilt, uneven shoulders and an unleveling of the hips. Scoliosis is prevalent in at least 4.5% of children and may increase to 25% – 30% as the population ages. Scoliosis is more than a cosmetic issue or a badly curved back. Scoliosis is associated with shortness of breath, digestive problems, headaches, hip, knee, and leg pain, and can cause heart and lung issues, which can even shorten one’s life. Traditional methods for treating scoliosis are observation, bracing and surgery, none of which have any promise of success. The CLEAR Institute was founded to bring a solution to people of all ages with scoliosis. Dr. Leavell says, “The most important thing we give our patients is a sense of hope! They begin to feel more in control over their scoliosis and no longer have fear of a future that includes bracing or surgery.” # # # We provide effective scoliosis treatment to patients from around the globe without using surgery or bracing. We focus on reducing and stabilizing the scoliotic curvature, and give patients hope, opportunity, and empowerment to manage their own condition. End
