Dec. 2, 2010 - PRLog -- LOS ANGELES (November 17, 2010) – The groundbreaking four-part documentary
series “BAKER BOYS: INSIDE THE SURGE” will be distributed to military bases
worldwide through an exclusive engagement with AAFES, making the film available to
military personnel and their families two months in advance of its wider release to the
general public on March 9, 2011. Gigapix Releasing is distributing the title through its
deal with Entertainment One.

The series, which originally aired on digital satellite network HDNet, provides an intimate
view of soldiers on the front lines during the ‘Surge’ in Iraq. When veteran war
cameraman Jon Steele embedded in Iraq with Baker Company, 1-15 Infantry, he came
with no media affiliation, no assignment from the news desk... only to ask the soldiers
"What do you think?" and "How do you feel?" Over the next 90 days, he filmed
everything they did and said from sun up to sundown. With startling access, the film
documents what a counter-insurgency looks like up close and personal, as the ʻSurgeʼ
transforms the art of war into the "art of the deal".

Acclaimed combat videographer Jon Steele explains, “I wanted to hook up with a combat
unit to look in their eyes, hear their voices…get them to open up about their feelings and
emotions,” said Steele. “I made a deal with them; Iʼd be willing to die with them if theyʼd
be willing to talk to me.”

Director Kern Konwiser adds, “I am thrilled that AAFES has given the movie an exclusive
run. For families of the soldiers, in particular, this documentary provides a rare and
invaluable experience of witnessing the world their loved ones are living in while they are
deployed.”

“Baker Boys: Inside the Surge” has won awards at every festival in which is has
played, including:

• Audience Award - Newport Beach International Film Festival
• Remi Winner - 43rd Annual Worldfest Houston
• Honorable Mention - Dart Awards for Excellence in Journalism
• Award of Excellence - Accolade Competition
• Bronze winner - 31st Annual Telly Awards
• Official Selection - Gotham Awards' Festival Genius Audience Award 2010

What the military community is saying about the film:

“… one of the more important documentaries of the last decade. Youʼll never feel closer
to our troops or more proud of them.”
- CDR Salamander, military blogger

“As a fellow Armed forces individual it is nice to see someone bring the reality of what
our troops are doing overseas and to see someone show it the way its happening. Thank
you for doing this. “
- USMC Sgt. Sean Graham

“As an Army Mom - it really helped give me some insight into what my soldiers have
been & are going through. An eye opener in MANY ways. THANKS - to all involved in
making this - especially the Baker Boys. HOOAH “
- Mary Nation

“You wouldn't have believed the response from my family at the end of the movie. I
looked around the room at the 40+ people and jaws were dropped... and silence, no
movement for 20 minutes. Then one at a time they all came up and hugged me. Tears
everywhere. Very powerful. Thank you!!! It was a moment that will never be forgotten.
- Spc. Colby Hamon, Baker Company
