Nov. 30, 2010 - PRLog -- (Clifton, NJ)  Taking the initiative to repair your own appliances has always been known as a good way to save money. Not too mention bragging rights when it's fixed properly, you can brag to your significant other and friends, which is always an added bonus. But what happens when the problem exceeds your knowledge? Such as natural gas furnace repairs.

Such repairs are sometimes better left to the professionals who are trained in the field of gas furnace repair. Homeowners sometimes make the attempt to fix their own forced hot air furnaces and do not always fully understand the consequences of these attempts. The thought of starting a fire in the house, an exploding gas furnace, or natural gas slowly seeping into the house is every homeowner's worst nightmare. So here is a list of common problems and remedies to help make the decision on whether or not you may need an HVAC service technician to come to your home and see if your natural gas furnace needs repairs.

Blower Motor Won't Shut Off

While this may not be a problem at first, you will definitely see your electrical bill on the rise and may start getting cold as the winter months go on. This is normally a simple fix. You will first have to go to the thermostat and look to see what setting the fan mode is on. If the switch is in the "on" position simply switch it to either the "off" position or preferably the "auto" mode.

If your problem is not solved with the thermostat you may have another problem all together which may require a heating service company to come out and take a look at it. Other problems may include a bad fan limit control or a problem with the circuit board depending how old the system is.

Heat Is On But Not Getting A Lot Of Air Flow

This could be caused by a few different problems, One you should check your air filter. If your furnace air filter is dirty you will not get the heat you want to all the rooms in the house. Not to mention eventually you may cause the heat exchanger to crack which can be a costly gas furnace repair.

Checking your air filter once a month and replacing it every two to three months is an easy way to avoid any problems with your heating or air conditioning system.

Unit is Short Cycling (Going On and Off constantly)

Another dirty filter problem,  Not having enough air flow across the heat exchanger can cause the unit to short cycle. Other reasons may include a faulty motor or possible the heat anticipator which can be found in the unit as well as your thermostat depending if it is digital or not. Checking out both of these problems should be handled by a professional to diagnose the problem.

If you come across any of these types of problems and you are not sure if you can fix it always call a professional to diagnose and make a repairs to your forced-hot air furnace.
