‘Best Day’ Ever for Special Needs Kids at the Beach November 13 & 14

Best Day Foundation and Surf Dog ‘Ricochet’ Come to Doheny State Beach in Dana Point on November 13th & 14th to Teach & Surf with Special Needs Kids

Nov. 3, 2010 - PRLog -- Dana Point, CA.:   Best Day Foundation, which helps kids with special needs build confidence and self-esteem through safe, fun-filled adventure activities, is thrilled to announce two “Best Day at the Beach” events at Doheny State Beach in Dana Point, California on November 13 & 14. The two free half-day events at Doheny State Beach include surfing, bodyboarding and kayaking – activities most children only dream of.

Every “Best Day at the Beach” event is free for kids with special needs including Autism, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Blindness, Cancer, Spinal Cord injuries and other physical and developmental challenges. “Best Day Foundation's goal is to engage the community in celebrating how amazing each special child is.  We're excited to put the first Orange County events together this November and grow the OC chapter to serve more children next year,” claims Max Montgomery, Best Day Co-Founder and Executive Director.  “We’ve received a great initial response from the local community for these kids, and we can’t wait to see them surf!”

Each kid is paired with trained volunteers and then begins their Best Day with fun exercises, fit for every special need, before gearing up to enjoy water and beach activities run by an experienced team of volunteers. The safe, fun activities are designed to expand their potential, create excitement, and connect them with new friends. After an exciting day at the beach and a warm lunch, each participant is individually honored for their achievements during an award ceremony.

Best Day is still accepting volunteers for these events. It’s not necessary to be surfer or get in the water to make a difference. Best Day volunteers range from school kids to senior citizens and they hail from every industry and profession. Roy Sahachaisere, local surfer and CEO of Action Sports Hub and Best Day OC organizer says, “This is a wonderful opportunity to get together and share our love of the ocean with the children in our community who don’t often get the chance to enjoy the beautiful coastal environment.”

Participation for kids with special needs is on a first-come, first-served basis and is limited for safety reasons.  Each child must be registered in order for him or her to participate.

Best Day has held nine similar beach events in New Jersey and Ventura Ca. this June - October. See the website for photos and comments on the experience.

Best Day is 100% volunteer-run and funded through donations, grants and generous sponsorships. To volunteer or learn about sponsorship opportunities, please visit: http://www.bestdayfoundation.org/
