Dryer Vent Cleaning Will County Wizard Helps American Red Cross with Disaster Relief

Oct. 18, 2010 - PRLog -- Chicago, IL – The Will County Dryer Vent Cleaning Wizard is joining the local American Red Cross to help raise funds for disaster relief efforts in observance of National Fire Prevention Month in October.

Fire is the largest disaster threat to residents and the number one disaster relief effort by the American Red Cross in the U.S.  According to the National Fire Prevention Association, the number of dryer fires in the U.S. has risen to over 17,000 per year.

A dryer fire in Spring Valley caused major damage to the basement.  Residents escaped safely, but firefighters found 3 tabby cats hiding in the basement after the smoke cleared.  They administered oxygen through a small tube and poured water onto their fur.

The American Red Cross and the Will County Dryer Vent Cleaning Wizard are promoting National Fire Safety Month as they remind consumers to minimize the risk of home fires by installing smoke alarms and developing a fire escape plan.

According to a representative of the local Red Cross chapter, "Fires can strike suddenly and spread quickly.   It’s important that people take simple and inexpensive steps now, such as installing a smoke alarm inside bedrooms, outside sleeping areas and on every level of their homes.  They should also create a plan of escape in case they need to leave at a moment’s notice, because during a fire every second counts and being prepared can greatly reduce the affects of these devastating disasters.”
