Two men join forces to put on a Hollywood style party for the homeless

The Clean Socks Exit 0 Benefit for the Homeless

JEFFERSONVILLE — October 11, 2010 — Today at the City of Jeffersonville (IN) RiverStage, The Clean Socks Tour Event for the Homeless and Jesus Cares at Exit 0 announced a joint venture forming the Clean Socks Exit 0 Benefit for the Homeless, enabling the homeless and impoverished to receive complimentary blood pressure checks, haircuts, lunch and dinner service plus a Hollywood style gift bag complete with clean socks, first aid bags, pop open ready-to-eat can goods, snacks and a blanket or sleeping bag at no cost.

The Clean Socks—Exit 0 team also announced that in just five months after their initial introduction, the volunteer groups have enlisted a record number of businesses, churches and civic organizations to participate in its one of a kind community event.

The list includes Coffee Crossing, The Crossing Christian Church, Clarksville Elementary School, Domino’s Pizza—Southern Indiana, GRACEland Baptist, Hope for Louisville, Mama’s Table, Magdalena’s Restaurant in Corydon, volunteers from Northside Christian Church, Soul Center, Tunnel Hill, PCA Pharmacy and Peace Chapel Baptist.

“We’ve joined forces in an all out war against addiction, homelessness and poverty with some of the finest like thinkers we know,” said Jeff Minton, director of the Clean Socks Charity. “It has already surpassed anything Paul and I ever dreamed of and more volunteers and organizations are joining us daily.”

Record Rate of Children Dying from Hunger:

“A recent newspaper article stated that a child dies in the world today every 10 seconds from hunger and that includes the United States,” Paul Stensrud, director of the Exit 0 feeding ministry said. “What it didn’t say is that we (in the United States) throw away an approximate 28 billion pounds of food every year and we spend in excess 100 billion dollars on waste disposal. That statistic in itself is staggering, but to think that a child or anyone for that matter goes hungry in America is unfathomable.”
