Follow on Google News | Discovery Girls Magazine To Feature Real Tween Role ModelsThe magazine aims to inspire girls by spotlighting 12 real girls as voted on by thousands of their peers.
By: Discovery Girls Magazine The contest was announced in the June/July 2010 issue of the magazine and the editors invited readers who believed they embodied the mission of the magazine to enter. More specifically, they were looking for girls who work hard to become more confident and resilient by staying true to themselves and never giving up and who are passionate about making the world a better place. After receiving thousands of entries and narrowing the choices to 30 finalists, Discovery Girls waited as the world voted daily for their favorite role models. Voting concluded on September 30, 2010. The magazine is now announcing the Contest Winners (in alphabetical order): 1. Abby, 11 from Missouri 2. Calista, 10 from Pennsylvania 3. Cameron, 10 from California 4. Cannelle, 11 from Arizona 5. Carmel, 11 from Illinois 6. Erica, 11 from Nebraska 7. Jenna, 11 from Iowa 8. Kate, 11 from New Jersey 9. Kennedy, 13 from Pennsylvania 10. Maia, 13 from Nova Scotia, Canada 11. Mary Margaret, 11 from Maryland 12. Sophia, 9 from Michigan These 12 girls will be flown to California to be featured in a special edition of the magazine, where each of them will be highlighted for their achievements and goals. Discovery Girls has spent the past 10 years motivating tweens to become more confident and comfortable with themselves during these difficult years. The Role Model Contest marks the first time the magazine has allowed readers to choose who they want to represent not only the magazine, but their generation.
