Oct. 7, 2010 - PRLog -- Harry's Bar, Dungannon will host an 80's Night for children with Cerebal Palsy at The Buddy Bear School in Dungannon on Friday 15th October. Live music from Baz Vegas a fantastic raffle for great prizes on the night and it’s 80’s fancy dress too.

Buddy Bear have Children in Need in Dungannon. They are a local charity. The children need your help to stay at this school as no funds have been made available in spite of a resolution by the Assembly that the First and Deputy Ministers and Minister of Education should support and fund the school.

One of the key organisers behind the 80’s theme night in Harry’s Bar is Channel 5’s “How To Be A Property Developer’ Gary McCausland who spoke to us from London “I’ve seen the work Buddy Bear have done over the years first hand and it really is impressive. We all get dealt cards in life that we have no control over and in the case of having a child with Cerebal Palsy, it’s never an easy one and many parents I’d imagine would find it hard to adjust too. However luckily for us The Buddy Bear School is there for them and their child as long as is required. The Buddy Bear school take care of every concern you may”

Many parents, whose children attend The Buddy Bear School, are delighted that a well known local bar in Dungannon has decided to finally reach out and help to raise much needed funds to develop and provide further training to both staff and therefore children at The Buddy Bear School.

“Come along and help our children” is the simple yet powerful message from Buddy Bear Chairman Brendan McConville “Children with cerebral palsy are making progress at this special school which the Community started 22 years ago and I’m delighted that each year we’re constantly re-establishing ourselves and impressing parents with our skilful techniques and highly trained staff”

One of the youngest members at The Buddy Bear School tried her first steps this week after 10 months of solid progressive work. It’s a start that has given her parents that much needed extra boost of confidence. Some children have been able to leave and attend other schools, for example Daniel from Newry, one of Buddy Bears’ first pupils from when they started now has a job and won a silver medal in the Special Olympics.

Brendan adds in closing “ We are appealing to individuals, schools, firms and clubs to Support Buddy Bear Children in Need. We have never received a penny from BBC Children in Need, so I ask you to please consider that charity begins at home. We are thrilled that Harry’s Bar have decided to support us and we can’t thank Marc, his brother Gary and all the staff enough for generosity and support in the run-up to our event on the 15th, we hope it will be the first of many”

Some 20 years ago, the Buddy Bear School was set up by the Buddy Bear Trust, a registered charity. This was in response to the pleas of parents who wanted conductive education for their children, who suffered from cerebral palsy and other motor disorders.

Conductive education was developed by the world famous Peto Institute in Budapest. Conductive education at the Buddy Bear School has had life changing consequences for some of the children who have been lucky enough to attend our school in Dungannon, Co Tyrone, Northern Ireland.
