Shawn Guffey Named Director of Loss Control and Claims at Cavignac & Associates

Oct. 7, 2010 - PRLog -- Shawn Guffey, CSP, ARM, has been appointed as director of loss control and claims for Cavignac & Associates, announced Jeffrey W.  Cavignac, CPCU, ARM, RPLU, CRIS, president and principal of the San Diego-based risk management and insurance brokerage firm.
   In his new position, Guffey is charged with designing, coordinating and delivering loss control and claims management services on behalf of the firm’s clients. A four-year military veteran, he brings to the firm 15 years of career experience in risk management, including risk identification and analysis, asset protection, disaster planning and workers compensation.
   Most recently, he served as the division safety manager for TruGreen LandCare, a subsidiary of ServiceMaster Company, one of the largest commercial landscaping companies in the nation. There he managed the environmental health and safety programs for the company’s West division of more than 2,500 employees, overseeing injury prevention, fleet safety, environmental compliance and overall risk management. He is credited for the West division of TrueGreen LandCare having recently won the prestigious Overall Safety Achievement Award from the Professional Landcare Network (PLANET).
   Guffey’s prior career experience includes having served as the director of safety, security and transportation for Alvarado Hospital. Before then he provided independent risk management consulting services to various companies within the pesticide control, microelectronics, and metal forging industries. Earlier experience includes having served as the environmental health and safety director for Polese Company in San Diego.
   While enlisted with the U.S. Air Force, Guffey served as a bioenvironmental engineering journeyman specializing in industrial hygiene. He conducted industrial hygiene evaluations for Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, and routinely responded to and corrected base emergencies.
   Guffey earned his Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Phoenix, San Diego, after receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in management from Park University in Parkville, Mo. and Associate of Science in bioenvironmental engineering from the Community College of the U.S. Air Force.
   He achieved his Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation through the Board of Certified Safety Professionals and his Associate in Risk Management (ARM) designation through the Independent Insurance Agency and American Institute for Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters. He has earned more than a dozen environmental health and safety certifications throughout his career. Currently he is a Professional Member of the American Society of Safety Engineers.
   Born in Honolulu and raised in El Cajon, Calif., Guffey now resides in Alpine with his wife and two children. In his leisure time, he enjoys reading and spending time with his family.
