Sept. 30, 2010 - PRLog -- .......................what your requirements and goals are FIRST!

We talk to so many people that went out and just bought a kit off the shelf or worse yet off of some email that came to them and they cannot figure out why they cant see any detail and many times what gender people in the recorded video are.

As with any product or market there are usually 3 levels that you want to be sure you fit into more than anything else - Good, Better Best. WHY because on either side of those 3 terms you will find trouble ; lets face it "you get what you pay for".

If you go with less than Good do not expect to use the video you record for anything as it will usually be good for absolutely nothing, when purchasing CCTV Security Products you want to be sure your cameras have a decent resolution rating so that you will have a level of quality to your video.

Lines of Resolution simply refers to overall quality of the video that will be captured; look at it like Thread Count of your sheets - the higher the thread count the better the sheets and so on. Same with Resolution of your TV, lets face it your TV from 1986 just doesn't stack up side by side with even the lowest grade plasma.

On the other side of Best we have Excessive which could be compared to buying a Ferrari or a Porsche; sure we would all like to have one but (A). do you really need it to take your kids to school and (B). can you afford the $700.00 Oil Change?

So we always recommend that you asses your needs before you plunk down your cash and make your purchase; of course if you need assistance determining your needs based on application and end result there are people available to actually walk you through that process and if you are dealing with a good company it wont cost you anything for the consultation.

Be sure to ask your vendor plenty of questions to be sure you are getting what you need and not what they want to sell you; we believe the easiest way to sell is to LISTEN and then respond with the appropriate solution based on what we heard. The nice part about the present economy and the information age is that there are so many options and people looking to provide you their product or service these days; the downside is occasionally that can cause you problems if you are not careful.

When putting together the BEST CCTV Security System for you remember to ask about these products and always ask - (IS THIS EVERYTHING I WILL NEED?) Below you will find a great starting point along with some useful DIY information -

DVR = Digital Video Recorder - the minimum number of channels you will need is determined by the number of cameras you have in your system. The Size or storage of your DVR will be determined by how many hours and at what quality you want to record your video; this is super important so be sure to figure this appropriately.

Cameras - How many you will need is determined by your areas needing to be covered and how big your location is; if you are a first time DIY CCTV buyer we recommend that you speak with a customer service associate to determine the number of cameras needed. NOTE: If you buy a DVR one size up from what you need or leave a couple of channels empty you can always expand your system to accommodate more areas etc.

Be sure to ask about Lines of Resolution and see what is available for your budget in a Good, Better, Best scenario - sometimes a few extra bucks can buy you a whole lot more.

Power Supply's will be required for EACH Camera in your system and usually you will be better off buying a Power Supply Box instead of individual for each camera - see what we are talking about here http://securitysourcedirect.com/products/arm-electronics/...

Video Cable or ZIP Wire  will be required to power each camera and return the video back to the DVR; you can estimate the amount of cable needed but DO NOT buy just enough as that will usually bite you and then you will need to pay shipping all over again and have way too much left over most likely.

DO NOT FORGET to order Connectors for your cable ends as these will be required to connect everything up together; don't worry they are only a few cents or so.

Video Monitor is optional but then again what good is video trapped in a DVR if you cant see it? You can optionally send a signal out to your TV or Computer Monitor; ask an associate for further information about this.

If you are looking for an off the shelf system that is configurable and expandable we have several to choose from and we can always adjust for you if needed -
Typical Configurations are 2, 4, 8, and 16 Camera Systems
