Sept. 29, 2010 - PRLog -- Since the the nineteen nineties, when users sat through dial-up internet access and listened to that voice say "you've got mail" when they accessed the net, the internet has changed from a luxury to a essential need.

"Microsoft had just launched a new operating system that included for the first time web browser Internet Explorer," Enrique Ruedo-Sabater, Cisco's senior director of strategy and economics in promising markets, said about breakthroughs in the '90s that contributed to the internet's improvement. "By the end of that year, there were 16 million Internet users worldwide and at the moment, we are about 2 billion."

In the next 12-15 years, this movement is expected to speed up rapidly, as a recent study by Cisco and the Monitor Group's Global Business Network predict the global world-wide-web population to reach 5 billion users by 2025. By that time, the total market value of web users will exceed $3 trillion and people who, as of today, may have in no way even heard of Google or Facebook could be making use of them on a every day basis.

"Global economic wealth, Gross Domestic Product growth and income distribution tendencies across and within countries, will be major factors in translating broader preferences into genuine choices - and powerful demand," the report described.

The study's prediction is based on expected developments from major businesses and government organizations that will broaden connectivity to even more markets. The progress the world wide web has seen during the past few decades are also expected to make it easier for brand new internet users in the next fifteen years to become accustomed with the web. In comparison to earlier generations, which were introduced to the web at its fairly early stages, those adding the world wide web into their homes and businesses for the first time between right now and 2025 will be able to leverage the innovations that have come about over the past couple of decades.

Web-based connections are also envisioned to develop during the next 15 years. The study forecasts several distinct forms of online connectivity that will be used often. This will have an impact on pricing form internet service providers, as the report explains "one-size-fits-all bandwidth alternatives will be the exception rather than the norm."

"These scenarios can help company strategists develop tough, nimble business models and policy makers to ensure they create a hospitable institutional environment and steer clear of pitfalls," he explained. "By exploring and rehearsing divergent and possible futures for the World wide web, not only can leaders get ready for any future, they can also help shape it."

The announcement is indicative of the evolutionary nature of the world wide web. As the world wide web has previously shown such spectacular changes over the past decade, and is targeted to see even more advancements during the next fifteen years, personal pc users will need to consult experts in security and internet connectivity to make sure they keep up with the technology coming into their homes.
