Bay Shore, NY – The Bay Shore Dryer Vent Cleaning Wizard is joining the local American Red Cross to raise funds for disaster relief efforts in observance of National Fire Prevention Month in October.
The largest disaster threat to residents and the number one disaster relief effort by the American Red Cross in the U.S. is fire. According to the National Fire Prevention Association, the number of dryer fires in the U.S. has risen to over 17,000 per year.
The American Red Cross and the Bay Shore Dryer Vent Cleaning Wizard are making an extra effort during National Fire Safety Month to remind consumers to minimize the risk of home fires by installing smoke alarms and developing a fire escape plan.
According to a representative of the local Red Cross chapter, "Fires can strike suddenly and spread quickly. It’s important that people take simple and inexpensive steps now, such as installing a smoke alarm inside bedrooms, outside sleeping areas and on every level of their homes. They should also create a plan of escape in case they need to leave at a moment’s notice, because during a fire every second counts and being prepared can greatly reduce the affects of these devastating disasters.”
