Sept. 17, 2010 - PRLog -- Sometimes you just want a cheap phone that suits no other purpose than to text and make calls. Whether this is an emergency phone for keeping in your purse, a quick and cheap replacement until your more expensive phone goes on sale, or you just want something minimalistic that doesn't have too many features, the LG GB102 is definitely made with these purposes in mind. However, there is such a thing as too basic.

The LG GB102 isn't designed to turn heads. Available in black or white, it's your ordinary, run of the mill candy bar phone featuring flat, tiny buttons, a 1.5 inch screen, and a truly cheap exterior. However, while the outer casing may attract fingerprints and feel like it's made from the worst plastic known to man, the phone can nevertheless take a few hard knocks, which is useful if you plan on storing it in your car. On the plus side, it's small enough and light enough that it fits in a pocket or briefcase without trouble. Additionally, the phone's back light is bright enough to double as a torch if needed.

Unfortunately, the user interface is just as dull as its design, displaying six unimaginative little icons against a simple background. Considering its price, you're lucky that the screen's even in colour. On the other hand, its spartan interface makes navigating it a fairly uncomplicated experience. Thus far there aren't many glitches or instances of sluggish behavior.

That aside, the LG GB102 doesn't provide you with very much. There is no internet, camera, or music players to speak of. It's equipped with a proprietary headphone jack for hands free talking. Sound quality in general, however, is shoddy at best, even through the speaker phone. Again, if you just want a basic emergency phone, it shouldn't matter too much if the voices are muffled, as they're not so distorted or crackly as to be unintelligible. There are a lot of different discount offers for this phone and you can check most of them on http://emobilephonedeals.co.uk/popular-18-month-deals.

What do you get with the LG GB102? Dual band technology limits you to using it in largely local areas. You're also equipped with a vibration alert, alarm clock, a stopwatch, a calender, and a calculator. In sort, everything you'll need if you want a no nonsense, simple phone for quick, infrequent use.

However, if you're looking for something with a bit more to it, the LG GB102 may not fit the bill. After all, even the most basic phones usually have some sort of internet connectivity, and some users may find its lack more painful than they thought. Its unpleasant exterior, combined with its small buttons, may frustrate even the most bohemian of users, especially those with big fingers. While there's nothing about the phone that would hamper its use, little annoyances such as its poor sound quality may be a deal breaker for some.

All in all, the LG GB102 provides what you pay for. If this suits your needs, this may be worth considering. However, if you want something with a bit more meat on it, there are plenty of other budget phones that are much better equipped. Speaking of budget phones, if you're planning on saving and buying a laptop, why not give it a try on http://emobilephonedeals.co.uk/laptop and choose what deal you like best. Just a piece of advice.
