Sept. 14, 2010 - PRLog -- With data growth and its associated costs causing such concern, it's no surprise that affordability remains an important factor when it comes to data centre selection for an astounding 97 per cent of respondents.

With such serious concerns about the price of storing growing volumes of information, old prejudices towards data centres located outside of the capital seem to have been reversed. 65 per cent of respondents would choose a data centre located outside the M25 in order to keep costs down without sacrificing security and redundancy.

“In keeping with our client-focused approach, we were keen to gain a greater understanding of how our clients view the data centre industry at the moment.  One of the main concerns is spiralling costs of land in the capital, with many clients looking for cost-effective solutions with additional physical security measures outside of London,” explains Robin Ellis, group commercial director, BlueSquare Data. “While it has always been important to our clients, we've seen a shift towards finding the right mix of quality and affordability as the deciding factor when it comes to selecting a data centre. Of course our clients still want high redundancy and low latency too – and they can achieve all of this with the right provider.”

High redundancy was the second most cited factor when choosing a co-location provider (89 per cent), with convenient location and comprehensive physical security (both 76 per cent) claiming an equal third place. Low latency was also important for 73 per cent of respondents.
