IJIS Institute Revamps Law Enforcement Data Exchange Committee

Sept. 7, 2010 - PRLog -- The IJIS Institute, a nonprofit organization that focuses on mission-critical information sharing for justice, public safety, and homeland security, announces that its newly-revamped NIBRS/N-DEx Advisory Committee is now operational. The primary role of the NIBRS/N-DEX Advisory Committee is to create and maintain an active dialog between the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Division, other stakeholders and Industry as relates to national programs such as the Law Enforcement National Data Exchange (N-DEx) and the National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS).

In support of this objective, the committee obtains information from the FBI and other stakeholders and passes it along to IJIS Institute members. It also collects information from industry and other sources and provides inputs and feedback to the FBI and other stakeholders. Further, the committee supports national information sharing programs through advocacy for the development and adoption of national standards. The committee promotes industry endorsement and support of the FBI information sharing programs.  

In recent months, the IJIS Institute recreated the NIBRS/N-DEX Advisory Committee by revising the charter and purpose and overhauling the committee membership. The new committee includes the following representatives: Bruce Kelling (chair), Bask Enterprises; Vivian Bratt, Tiburon Inc; Rehan Chawdry, Sypherlink; Chris Hellewell, Spillman Technologies; Dwight Hunter, Hunter Research Inc; Vijay Mehra, KYM Advisors Inc; John Hoe, IBM; Simon Illingworth, Sungard; Chandra Jonelagadda, Tetrus Consulting; Leo Hisoire, TriTech Software Systems; and Mary Zabrosky, Raytheon. Several committee members represent practitioners and government partners, including: Terry O’Connell, Justice Information Sharing Practitioners and the State of Oregon; Richard Brown and Benjamin Stout, FBI CJIS; and David Gavin, International Association of Chiefs of Police.
