Sept. 7, 2010 - PRLog -- Fort Myers Toyota dealer, Ft. Myers Toyota the Family Store, shares information from a recent Forbes.com article.  This newsworthy article exposes the trucks that performed the worst in safety tests.

Although domestic sales of cars and trucks are up almost 15% this summer, the Chevrolet Colorado and Hummer H3 are two of the trucks that experienced a drop in sales due to having some of the lowest safety scores in their class—making them among the most dangerous new trucks on the road.

The Toyota Tacoma ranks at the top of its class for safety. In government crash tests the Tacoma earned five out of five stars for driver and front passenger protection in both frontal and front-side crash tests, as well as a rollover rating of four stars. In side impact crash tests, it earned five stars for rear passenger protection in the double cab. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awarded the Toyota Tacoma the highest possible rating of "Good" for frontal-offset crash tests.

Toyota’s full size pickup truck, the Toyota Tundra, earned a five-star rating in frontal crash tests for driver and front passenger protection in government crash tests. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the 2009 Tundra a "Good" rating, the highest possible, for both frontal offset and side impact tests, and recognized the Tundra as a Top Safety Pick for good performance in front, side and rear crash tests.  Pamela Templeton, Partner of Ft. Myers Toyota added “The Toyota Truck Line offers SAFETY, RELIABILITY and ultimately more VALUE in the long run than other competitive brands.  It is the truck of choice for many of our friends, family including my husband and our two Canaan dogs!   Our Tundra Crewmax offers an amazing amount of room, a quiet stable ride that is truly a pleasure on long drives up North to visit our family.”

Toyota continues to reign over the truck category with the Tacoma and Tundra. The Toyota Tacoma has won a number of industry accolades, including the 2007 J.D. Power award for "Best Midsize Pickup in Initial Quality", the 2009 Truck Trend award for Best in Class Compact Pickup, and the 2010 U.S. News Best Car for the Money in the compact pickup class.  US News & World Report ranks the Tacoma #1 in the compact pickup truck category.

Fort Myers Toyota the Family Store invites area shoppers to visit their dealership and test-drive some of the safest trucks on the road today.  To learn more about the safety features of Toyota trucks, visit the Fort Myers Toyota virtual showroom.
